Papua New Guinea:Hela Government Office Building Handover & Heritage Hotel Groundbreaking

On October 17 local time, James Marape, Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, and Philip Undialu, Governor of Hela Province, attended the handover ceremony of the Second Phase of the Hela Provincial Government Office Building Reconstruction Project and the signing and groundbreaking ceremony of the HERITAGE Hotel, both undertaken by China Railway Construction Engineering Group .

In his speech, Prime Minister James Marape congratulated the successful completion and formal handover of the project, noting that the commissioning of the HELA2 office building will greatly improve the working conditions of the local government. It will also provide high-quality office and service facilities for institutions such as BSP Bank, Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC), Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), and Internal Revenue Commission (IRC). This project will effectively enhance government efficiency and public service capacity, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of Hela Province’s infrastructure.

Following the office building handover, Prime Minister Marape and his delegation proceeded to the HERITAGE Hotel project site to attend the signing and groundbreaking ceremony. Witnessed by the Prime Minister, Governor Philip Undialu, MRDC General Manager John Tuaim, and a representative of China Railway Construction Engineering Group signed the project contract for the HERITAGE Hotel.

The HERITAGE Hotel is the first modern hotel project in Hela Province and is expected to become a landmark building. Once completed and operational, it will further improve the city’s infrastructure, enhance its image, create numerous employment opportunities, and serve as a key driver of local economic growth.
